This website is managed by Screen Scotland's Screen Commission, a team that offers free advice and support to productions planning to film in Scotland. We can help find locations, advise on permissions required to film at locations across Scotland, and connect incoming productions with facilities, crew and talent.

What does this website do?

Our Locations website features a database of locations in Scotland, where Location Managers can search for their ideal shoot locations. This site is also a tool for Location Owners to register their properties and promote them to the world of production, managing their profiles accordingly.

Location Managers

Location Managers (this can include Locations Scouts and other members of production teams) can register an account to access additional Locations information and create their own pinboards of different locations they are interested in.

You will need to provide your name, email address and create a password. To find out how Creative Scotland will handle and use your personal information, please read our Locations Website Privacy Notice.

Location Owners

If you would like to register your property or site as a possible filming location, please follow the below steps:

  1. Read our Locations Website Privacy Notice – this will explain how Creative Scotland will handle and use your personal information
  2. Register as a Location Owner
  3. Once you've registered, complete the online Location Owner’s Property Form and submit this with images of your property or site if possible
  4. The email address and password you register with will enable you to log into your Location account to review, update or delete your information
  5. Once you've submitted the Location Owner’s Property Form, we'll get in touch with you to discuss your property or site

If your property or site is an appropriate filming location, we'll discuss and agree with you the images and information you would like to be published on the Locations website. You can choose how much information is visible, which images are immediately seen, and what information and images will be shared at our discretion. Your published information will be accessible to visitors to the Locations website, including Location Managers, Producers, Scouts.

We may arrange a site visit to take more images – in which case we will discuss and agree a mutually convenient date and time during our initial contact with you.

Review of your account

Every three years, we will contact Location Managers and Location Owners by email to ask you to review your account to ensure the information you have provided to us remains up to date.  If there are no changes to be made, please click on the respective link within the email you will have received to confirm that your information is up to date. If you need to update your account at any time, please login using your email address and password.
